What we collect
Nightfile stores your level progress, badges, streaks and settings locally in your browser. If you join the leaderboard, we store the detective name you choose, an anonymous player id, and the cases you solved with their solve times.
Account and identity
The game does not require an email address or a password. Your player id is generated automatically and signed by our server so scores cannot be forged. It is not linked to your real identity.
Multiplayer and voice
In squad rooms we store the room code, player names and in-room events so the session can be synchronised. Live voice chat is transmitted peer-to-peer and is not recorded. Dictation audio is sent to our AI provider only to be converted into text and is not stored afterwards.
AI generation
Case text, suspects and interrogation replies are produced by third-party AI models through our gateway. Your questions to suspects are sent to those models to generate a reply.
Advertising
We show ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or device identifiers to serve and measure ads. You can manage ad personalisation in your Google account settings or your browser.
Your choices
You can reset all local progress at any time from the home page. To remove your leaderboard entry, contact us and we will delete it.
Children
Nightfile is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
